Kisii Governor James Ongwae has indicated the importance of having a regional bloc in Nyanza, saying this would help establish a common market that will enable residents buy and sell their goods without any obstacle.

Speaking on Tuesday at Ufanisi Resorts during the EALA workshop, Ongwae said discussions are underway in forming the bloc.

"We are having discussions with counties from Lake Basin like Migori, Homabay, Siaya, Kisumu and of course our sister county Nyamira, to deliberate on how we can work together and we realize our common goal. This can only happen through forming a formidable bloc that would enable us work as one and develop our region,” disclosed Ongwae.

He said all these counties have unique resources that need a market, and therefore called upon all members to agree on the bloc.

"Our counties are rich of resources like tea, sugarcane, fisheries and other farm produce. What I can ask my counterparts is to agree on the bloc idea so that we can work easily," he appealed.
