Over 1,000 students studying engineering courses at Egerton University held a demonstration on Wednesday opposing the move by the university management to send them home.

The angry students destroyed the notices pinned on all noticeboards informing them of the suspension of studies as they demanded for quick action to remedy the situation.

The Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK) failed to credit three programmes being offered by the University on account of not meeting the board’s requirement.

Among the unaccredited courses include Bachelor of Science in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Industrial and Energy Engineering.

"The university has been slow in dealing with this matter and as a result we students are the ones who are suffering," Juma Fredrick the chairman of the student's union said.

Last week, the students held demonstrations accusing the university of laxity in solving the matter.

However, after receiving the notice for indefinite suspension of studies, the students have vowed to stay in the university until the issue is resolved.
