Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama has said that they (opposition) will not relent in having the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) disbanded.
Muthama while speaking at Orange House in Nairobi on Sunday during a press briefing by Cord said they are determined to continue with their protests to have IEBC commissioners sent home.
Muthama stated that they are not afraid of the police adding that their protests will be peaceful.
“We are not going to relent until when the IEBC is disbanded and new commissioners appointed,” he said.
Muthama said that IEBC has shown that it cannot conduct any credible elections.
The Machakos senator urged Cord supporters to come out in large numbers during the Monday protests.
Siaya senator James Orengo said that their protests will be peaceful.
The senator accused the police of using force on protesters and blaming Cord leaders on chaotic violence.
“The police should not use force on protesters because of our demonstrations will be peaceful,” he said.
On Monday last week, the protests by opposition leaders turned chaotic as anti-police riot officers engaged protesters in running battles.
The protests saw several people injured with property reportedly looted from nearby shops.
The Monday protests also saw police condemned for being brutal on protesters.
Cord maintains that their weekly protests will continue until when IEBC will be disbanded.
Speaking at Garissa Primary School during his three-day tour of the North Eastern Region on Saturday, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy President William Ruto hit out at opposition leaders over their protests against IEBC.
Uhuru asked the opposition to use the constitutional means available in having the electoral body disbanded.
