They want a 90kg bag of wheat bought at Sh3,200 and Sh3,000 for maize, up from Sh2,300.

According to the Kenya Farmers Association Director Kipkorir Arap Menjo, the current price is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of production farmers have incurred.

"We want the national government to increase maize buying prices from the current Sh2,300 to Sh3,000 with an immediate effect. How can miller's buy 90kg bag of maize at a better price of 2600 compared to the government," he said.

Speaking to journalists after meeting farmers Menjo said farmers have incurred much cost of production due to poor quality of fertilizers and weather patterns.

"Why is this government frustrating farmers are we not part of this country, what is Sh2,300. We will not take our maize to NCPB until they behave," he said.

Menjo reiterated that they will conduct a peaceful demonstration on Monday to force the national government through the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the maize prices.

He however called upon the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Willy Bett to open NCPB for farmers to take their produce to prevent them from being exploited by middlemen.
