Kiambu county commissioner Alex Ole Nkoyo has warned students against engaging in criminal activities insisting that they will face the full force of the law.
Speaking in Juja town on Wednesday, Nkoyo said police have intensified a crackdown on arson cases in schools after President Uhuru Kenyatta warned students against burning schools and destroying property as the number of institutions affected hit continues to increase.
"The police will not hesitate to take action on anyone found engaging in criminal activities of burning schools because it is affecting the education sector," said Nkoyo.
He regretted that the government, parents and other stakeholders had pumped immense resources in the construction of learning institutions only for students to burn them down in one night.
The county boss asked chiefs and school neighbours to be on the lookout and report any suspicious incidents in schools to avert arson.
He also warned businessmen against the sale of fuel to children.
County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki urged students to express their grievances in a civil manner.
Over the weekend, teachers and neighbours thwarted an attempt by students to burn Chania Boys High School near Thika Town.
On Tuesday three students from Kijabe Boys High School were arraigned in Limuru court over arson charges.
