The interior cabinet secretary, Joseph Nkaissery has joined MPs parliament in ruling out use of military force to secure Migingo Island.
The island has been the source of conflict between Kenya and Uganda since the rule of the third Kenyan president, Mwai Kibaki.
This comes after the Coalition of Reformed Democracy (CORD) threatened to handle the matter if the government will not secure the island. More so, the coalition, through some senior members had earlier advised the government to use force in fighting to secure the island.
‘‘CORD said the government should deploy military in the Migingo Island. This could possibly lead to war between the Kenyan army and the Ugandan army which could have led to strained relationship or enmity,’’ he said.
This comes after some Kenyans living in Migingo complained of harsh treatment from Ugandan police during the voter registration period, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) clerks were stopped from conducting the exercise in the area.
