A Kiambu Member of the County Assembly (MCA) has said that in the subsequent elections, county seats would be divided 'on a table'.
Speaking to the residents of his Ndeiya Ward, MCA Nelson Munga said the people of Kiambu must ensure equal division in the posts of county seats. This is by dividing them equally through agreement and not just the casting of votes.
“We must ensure during the elections that if the governor comes from Kiambu East, the senator is from Kiambu West and the women representative is from another part of Kiambu. We must divide the seats from a table and not vote blindly,” said Munga.
He said it was a known fact that leaders in the country would automatically after taking positions of power favour their home areas with resources that led to the unequal development.
He said devolution was ingrained in the constitution to ensure development reached every village and hidden corner in the country, and the elected county leaders must not become a hindrance to development.
“We must adopt a wise strategy while electing county leaders and ensure we do not favour some areas over others,” he said.
There has been uproar in Kiambu County over the relocation of Kiambu governor offices from Kiambu town, the gazzetted location, to Thika town.
Kiambu town is in the west and Thika in the east.
Governor William Kabogo was brought up in Ruiru, which is in the west, and lived with his family in Juja, also in the West and therefore he is seen to prefer the west for his offices rather than Kiambu town in the east.
Kiambu residents also complain that most of the developments under the Kabogo led government have concentrated on the east parts of Kiambu.
