In a tweet Thursday, the Senator bashed the Kenyan government for remaining silent over its citizens' woes, faulting it for not intervening at a time when the Ugandan authorities have been reportedly harrasing Kenyan fishermen at the Lake Victoria island.

The most recent incident was on Monday, when the forces captured 7 Kenyans, including 3 policemen, who were then beaten before being taken to Uganda for detention, with government reports indicating that the police officers were later released.

The lawmaker called for immediate action from the Kenyan government , proposing Maasai warriors for the job, in case the government is unable to protect its citizens inhabiting the tiny island.

"The issue of Migingo is getting out of hand. The Kenyan government should act immediately or we will send Maasai morans," said the Senator.

"Uganda police should stop mishandling our citizens plus our police. We are not lesser in any way," further read the tweet.

The conflict over the island has been in existence since retired President Mwai Kibaki's tenure.

Kenyan fishermen have also lamented of their fishing gear and fish being taken away, and at times claimed to be forced into eating raw fish by the Ugandan police during arrests.
