CORD principal Raila Odinga has said the opposition will continue with its plans to hold a parallel Madaraka day rally at Uhuru Park despite the government's opposition.
Speaking at Mombasa Memorial Anglican church on Sunday, Odinga said the rally will not be used to disrespect the government and that its main reason will be to reconcile and urge citizens to remain peaceful as next year's general elections nears.
There has been a tussle about the venue availability whereby the police had written to the opposition that they will not be able to use the place since it was booked by a group of preachers for a religious function while Nairobi County government still holds that CORD has a licence to hold their rally in the same venue.
Odinga said that the main objective of the rally is to lower political tension in the country and unite citizens as well as advocate for peace.
He added the rally will not be used to sabotage the government as earlier claimed by Jubilee.
"Madaraka rally will be used to reconcile, unite as well as urge citizens to be peaceful and rumours that it will be used to disrespect the government are not true,"said Odinga.
He also revealed that the rally will not be used to gain political mileage and will be done in accordance with the law.
