Cord supporters from Kisii County yesterday demonstrated in their bid to kick out the current IEBC commissioners out of office.
Addressing the Cord supporters Kisii county governor James Ongwae, Senator Chris Obure and Women representative Mary Otara accused the current IEBC commissioners by saying that they don’t have confidence in them, hence, they urge the commissioners to get out from office to create room for other commissioners who will serve the nation better.
Senator Obure said that they will not allow IEBC to conduct the next general election simply because the referee cannot act as a player at the same time.
“We have lost confidence in the current IEBC commissioners, so we will continue with our bid since they cannot be the referee and at the same time they are players,” said Obure.
His sentiments were echoed by the Kisii county governor James Ongwae who said that they not kicking out the IEBC so as to have their own referee but fair persons in the commission to spearhead the general election.
“We are not kicking out the IEBC commissioners out so as to have our people there what we want is a new team that will build confidence among all Kenyans who advocate for free and fair elections,” said Ongwae.
The demonstrators were later dispersed by the police when they tried to access the IEBC offices in Kisii County.
