The special rain forecast for Labour Day celebrations, dated April 29, highlighted Nakuru among areas likely to receive heavy rainfall hence, residents should expect heavy downpour starting Sunday May 1, which will spread to Monday  May 2.

This comes in the wake of heavy downpour last Friday,  that hit parts of Kenya causing massive havoc in most counties.

However, the public has been urged to be extra cautious when crossing areas where rains have accumulated.

In a phone interview on KBC radio, the assistant director in charge of public weather services, Nicholas Maingi said on Saturday that the current downpour are normal rains usually experienced every end of March and towards May, dismissing claims that the heavy rains are El Niño phenomenon.

Maingi observed that the rains will continue in the coming days, warning people living in flood prone areas to vacate to avoid natural disasters.

Other parts of the country to be affected include Western, Nyanza, the Rift Valley and Central including Nairobi and Northern Kenya through the weekend especially on Sunday May 1.
