The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned of heavy rains in 10 counties between Wednesday and Thursday this week.
The weatherman advised those living in Kwale, Mombasa, Kisii, Tana River, Lamu, Kericho, Narok and Bomet counties to be on the lookout for heavy downpours which are likely to cause storm surges, floods and flash floods.
KMD said on Monday in a communication that heavy rains of more than 40mm in 24 hours is expected at the offshore areas of the Kenyan Cost on Wednesday and increasing to more than 50mm in 24 hours on Thursday, April 28.
“Heavier rainfall is anticipated in the South of Kenya (Msambweni, Wasini Island and Shimoni) and Southern Rift Valley and highlands west of the Rift Valley.”
The weatherman advised the public to exercise caution during the said period, saying the probability of flash floods in the areas is 80 per cent.
