The Kenya Meteorological Department is asking Kenyans to brace for more heavy rains throughout the next seven days.

Flash floods and mudslides have hit some parts of the country.

According to the weatherman in its seven days forecast, November is the peak of the “Short Rains” season that begins in October through to December.

The North-western counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu whose onset was this week, are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning on Wednesday and Thursday while the rest of the days are expected to experience rain over few places.

“The region will experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms over few places throughout the forecast period.”

The coastal strip counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale are expected to experience morning and afternoon showers over a few places throughout the forecast period.

Director of Meteorological Service Peter Ambenje on Monday said the Northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are expected to experience morning rains over a few places from Friday to Monday next week.

Showers are expected over a few places throughout the forecast period except for Wednesday afternoon which is expected to experience sunny intervals.

The Central Highlands including, Nairobi area Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru,  Embu,  and  Tharaka Nithi will experience cloudy mornings with light rains giving way to sunny intervals while the afternoon of Thursday and Monday next week may receive showers over several places.

The  Lake  Victoria  Basin,  Highlands  West  of  the  Rift  Valley,  Central  and  South  Rift  Valley including the counties  of  Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira,  Transnzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok,  Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are  expected  to  experience morning rains over few places especially around the lake basin throughout the forecast period.

“Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places from Tuesday to Friday and Monday, and over few places on Saturday and Sunday,” says KMD.
