Central counties of Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi should expect cloudy mornings and light rains in the afternoons.
The meteorological department has at the same time warned Western Kenya residents against sheltering under trees during rains to avoid being struck by lightning, reports the Star.
The weatherman says strong winds blowing from Uganda are expected to bring heavy rains to the region and the rains could leave casualties in its wake if residents do not take caution.
Kisumu and several areas around Lake Victoria are currently experiencing heavy rains mostly in the afternoon, a time when most people are often in the fields.
"Residents of these areas are advised not to take shelter under trees to avoid possibilities of lightning strikes," Peter Ambeje, Kenya Meteorological Department Acting Director General, said in a multi-hazard advisory issued on Thursday.
Mt. Elgon region, highlands west and east of the Rift Valley will also receive heavy rains, the Star adds.
At the Kenyan coast, Ambenje said that disturbance in the ocean may trigger waves of more than two meters height advising small vessels to take caution.
