Kipipiri lawmaker Amos Kimunya has disagreed with sentiments from Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina claiming that Wednesday's holiday announced by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i is guided by mischief.
According to Kimunya, the holiday is meant to give people the chance to fully prepare for the repeat election and also allow people enough time to travel to their voting areas.
On his part, however, Ole Kina alluded that the holiday is meant to prevent the Judiciary from listening to any petition related to the repeat election.
"There is no mischief in Matiang'i announcing a holiday tomorrow. The holiday is meant to give people enough time to travel to their voting areas and also make other preparations for the repeat presidential election on Thursday. There is no mischief in the holiday at all," reiterated Kimunya.
Kimunya further dismissed the idea that the presidential election to be held on Thursday will lack legitimacy if some parts of the country boycott the election.
"There is no legitimacy issue if certain people decide to boycott the repeat presidential election. A president-elect needs only 50 percent +1 of the votes cast and not 100 percent," added Kimunya.
The legislator made his remarks on Tuesday on Citizen Xtra show on Citizen TV during a political debate.
