Maize and Wheat farmers in the North Rift region have been assured that the government will buy their produce once they harvest later this year.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett has also promised to announce new maize and wheat prices soon.

Addressing the press in Eldoret town on Friday, Bett noted that the government will work hard to buy farmer's produce at a good price.

"As farmers prepare for the harvest season we want to assure them that as a government we will buy their produce," said the CS.

"We will soon be meeting with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to discuss on the maize and wheat prices which we will later announce," he added.

Farmers in the North Rift region, arguably the country's food basket are preparing to harvest their maize and wheat beginning the end of October.

Most of the farmers sell their produce to NCPB which offers better prices compared to local millers.Ends
