He said the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, has set aside enough funds to purchase maize at Sh3,000 up from Sh2,000.

"The government has set aside Sh6 billion for the exercise. This time we don't have deadlines for farmers to deliver their produce. We will receive it through out the year," he said.

He added, "Farmers can collect their payments three days after delivery."

Speaking to journalists at NCPB, Eldoret Depot on Saturday, Terer said they are targeting to buy 2 million 90kg bags from North Rift farmers.

"We have only purchased 410,000 bags of maize at a Cost of Sh1.2 billion. We are poised to reach our target by early next year," he added.

He, however, said NCPB has received more produce compared to last year due to good price of Sh3,000.

"Last year we bought 498,000 bags of maize countrywide but this year we've bought 410,000 90kg bags from North Rift alone. This shows we will have enough food throughout the year, "he added.

To avoid staying on cues for long, he advised farmers to take their product to Bungoma and Kisumu depots.
