[NASA leader Raila Odinga when he addressed a rally in Chelanga Grounds, Kapenguria in West Pokot County. He has been told he wont have any votes in North Eastern Kenya.] (File)National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga should expect a resounding defeat in Wajir, Jubilee aspirants in the County have said.
They say the best Raila can score in the far-flung county in the August 8 poll is 30 percent of the total registered votes, adding that they will tirelessly campaign to ensure the electorate votes for Jubilee Party just as they did for ODM in 2013.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Tarbaj constituency, Governor aspirant Mohamed Abdi expressed optimism President Uhuru Kenyatta will bag at least 70 percent of the votes in the county.
“I urge the young people to stand up and be counted. We don’t want to see anyone being left behind because we are one people that have charted our destiny,” Abdi told the charged rally.
He is expected to face off with incumbent Ahmed Abdullahi (ODM) who is among leaders selected to steer NASA campaigns in Northern Kenya. Abdi promised to start a county youth service programme that will allow youth to take part in nation building.
Tarbaj MP Mohamed Elmi said all pointers showed Jubilee will carry the day on August 8, telling aspirants contesting for elective seats on parties affiliated to NASA to expect defeat.
Other leaders at the event included Abdi’s running mate Ali Mukhtar, Wajir East MP Abass Sheikh and his Wajir North counterpart Ibrahim Saney.
They accused governor Abdullahi of sidelining their constituencies in development. The leaders also claimed the governor runs the devolved unit single-handedly and does not consult.
During the 2013 general election Raila won more votes in Wajir than he received in Mandera, Garissa and Marsabit counties. ODM also won all parliamentary seats in Wajir constituencies apart from Wajir East, which was won by Abass Sheikh (URP).
