Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly have vowed to vigorously campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure he wins the October 26 repeat presidential election.
The MCAs, led by the Assembly's leader of majority Josphat Lowoi and Deputy Majority whip Gilbert Tenai, said they have already launched massive grassroots campaign to rally their supporters to vote for President Kenyatta.
Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, the MCAs said they will seek to ensure a higher voter turnout in the repeat poll compared to the August 8 general elections.
During the August general elections, about 79 percent of the 450,055 registered voters in the county cast their votes.
"We want to ensure our people vote almost to a man in October 26 so that we reaffirms to our competitors that we won squarely in August," said Mr. Tenai, the Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA.
"This time round we are targeting to drastically reduce the number of votes that Raila got. This is a key Jubilee county and we are determined to deliver as many votes as possible to the President," added Lowoi, Karuna/Mibeki MCA.
According to August 8 Presidential results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before they were nullified by the Supreme Court, NASA's Raila Odinga garnered 72,378 votes in Uasin Gishu county compared to President Uhuru Kenyatta's 265,704 votes.
