Garissa medics running private businesses have vowed not to give in to the county's double taxation by way of single business permits, saying the provision amounted to double burden since they were already footing for annual license and practice fees to the respective regulatory bodies.
Speaking in response to the county secretary Mohamud Mursal's statement on revenue collection, the medics who run private hospitals and chemists in the North Eastern town lamented that the county administration had decided to frustrate them by imposing heavy taxes that were hampering growth of their businesses.
The County secretary had announced that the finance and revenue collection departments would come up with an exhaustive system that would curb cheaters in tax collection and remittance.
However, the county has also imposed a one month 90 per cent waiver fee on all land arrears and while encouraging land owners to take advantage of the ongoing waiver to settle their dues.
