Led by their branch executive secretary Gilbert Ndolo Owuor, the teachers demanded that the government should give them proper salary as it was agreed in the year 1997.

Owuor said they will not accept anything less than that stating that the cabinet secretary for education Prof Jacob Kaimenyi must resign since he is destroying the education system in the country.

He maintained that they will never go back to class unless the government meets teachers’ demands through the union official.

“We will only listen to Knut secretary General Wilson Sossion but not the President or Prof Jacob Kaimenyi,” he said.

Ndolo warned head teachers against reporting to school during the national teachers’ strike, saying that anyone who will attempt to do so will meet their wrath.

Owuor stated that they will not allow any teacher to betray them especially during the strike when teachers are angry with the government regarding their salary.
