Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro has denied claims that Jubilee Party was imposing some aspirants on the county’s voters.
Mung’aro said JP was a democratic party and would not abuse Kilifi residents’ right to choose their leaders.Last week Kilifi gubernatorial aspirant Kazungu Kambi (Kadu Asili) claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga were forcing some aspirants on residents. He said some aspirants were under instruction from the two leaders to contest for specific elective seats despite being rejected by voters during party nominations.“As leaders, we agreed on allowing our people the choice of electing good and responsible leaders through engaging in politics of development,” Mung’aro said at a meeting held at Ganda Ward in Malindi constituency on Monday. He denied Kambi’s claims saying they were baseless.Kambi had said Uhuru and Raila should respect the people of Kilifi by allowing them exercise their democratic right to choose who will represent them at various leadership levels.“If you want votes, come and talk to us and then go away,” Kambi said last week.He said politicians outside Kilifi should stop taking residents of the county for granted.Kambi who left public service to join politics said it was time non-resident politicians learn to respect the Mijikenda community. He said the “Mijikenda people are not ‘yes sir’ people”.Mung’aro is vying for the gubernatorial position together with Kambi. They will face off against incumbent Amason Kingi who has expressed confidence he will win the election and lead the county until 2022.
