Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has warned rogue politicians who instigate violence in campaigns saying they will be arrested and charged in court.
Boinnet says that police have been given clear instructions not to spare any politician who perpetuates violence during political campaigns
Speaking at KICC during an election preparedness meeting organized by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday, Boinnet said police are well prepared to ensure security before, during and after the August polls.
“We will not spare anyone who perpetuate violence regardless of the position he or she hold or the political party he or she belongs in,” said Boinnet.
Boinnet said that police patrols will be done on a 24 hour basis across the country. He indicated that police are being trained on election processes in readiness for the polls.
The IG further said that police will remain impartial in the election process. “The police will not take sides and our main agenda is to guarantee security of Kenyans as they go to the polls,” he said.
Boinnet urged politicians to cooperate with the police as they conduct their campaigns.
He said that the police will work closely with other stakeholders to ensure the August general election if peaceful.
