Whoever will vie for the presidency under the Jubilee party ticket in 2022 should forget the Western vote, an MP allied to the opposition has said.
Tindi Mwale (Butere, Amani National Congress) said on Tuesday the regime has not done much in the region to convince residents in the vote-rich zone to vote for ruling party.
Deputy President William Ruto, who hails from Uasin Gishu, a county that borders the former Western province looks forward to succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta and has been making forays into the region.
"Western is sealed off, we are now united more than ever before," the MP said during an interview with KTN News.
"We have cemented plans to establish our own party. But one thing I know is that Jubilee will have a run for its money in the region."
NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) who come from Western have all indicated plans to contest for the presidency come 2022.
Mwale said the region overwhelmingly voted for opposition chief Raila Odinga during the 2013 and 2017 general elections and voters there will be prepared to vote for any other presidential contestant other than Jubilee's.
Jubilee has 12 elected leaders from the region that it banks on to drum up support for it ahead of 2022.
