Taita Taveta MP Naomi Shaban has dismissed Homa Bay Town Peter Kaluma’s secession Bill that seeks to split the country into two.Shaban said the bill is malicious, arguing that it is being fronted to achieve the selfish interests of NASA’s top leadership.Speaking to journalists at Parliament buildings on Tuesday, Shaban said Jubilee legislators will shoot down the Bill once it is brought to the National Assembly and the Senate. The MP accused opposition politicians of blackmailing and threatening Kenyans in the name of secession. The Jubilee lawmaker claimed that NASA is using divisionary tactics to acquire power through the back door.“Let Kaluma and all others pushing for secession know that they are engaging in a pointless exercise,” said Shaban.Shaban said Kenyans are united and will not be divided along tribal lines by politicians who are seeking political satisfaction. She appealed to Kenyans not to listen to the opposition and instead remain peaceful and united.Kaluma has drafted a Bill that seeks to split the country into two republics. The MP through the 2017 constitution amendment Bill seeks to amend Chapter 2 and Article 5 of the constitution that defines the country’s territory. In the Bill, Kaluma wants 40 out of the 47 counties to secede. He is proposing the creation of two republics (the People’s Republic of Kenya that comprises of the 40 counties) and the central Republic of Kenya that comprises the remaining seven counties. The Homa Bay Town MP argued that secession is the only way to cure the political, social and economic injustices facing certain communities in the country.
