Residents from north eastern region have urged their local community elders to stop imposing their preferred candidates on them.
The residents said that they had a democratic right to elect their favourite candidates in the various elective posts.
The new twist of events come just months after some clans in Garissa and Mandera counties announced that they had selected preferred politicians to take up the various elective positions come 2017 general elections.
The locals now say the five-year rotation of regional leaders from the various sub-clans could hinder development agendas and even entrench graft.
Recently, the Garre Council of Elders in Mandera County picked a senior administrator in the Ministry of Devolution Hassan Noor Hassan to take over the county leadership after the elections from the incumbent Ali Roba for Mandera.
In Garissa County, Aden Duale was endorsed as the Abduwak's favorite candidate for the Garissa Township legislative position even as Ali Korane is named to succeed Governor Nathif Jama.
