A section of Kabete residents on Sunday hosted a party for the underprivileged persons at Gathiga Location, Nyadhuna Ward Kiambu County.
Duncan Ndegwa, the coordinator of the party said that the organisers of the occasion wanted the underprivileged to be part of members of society.
“These underprivileged persons have been ignored by society and it is for this reason we have decided to host them at this party,” said Ndegwa.
He expressed concern over which the society has been sidelining the interests of underprivileged persons.
“The society should change its attitude over the status of the underprivileged persons and accommodate them in the main stream of social fabric,” said Ndegwa.
Ndegwa urged those who are financially capable to help the less fortune members of society, adding that the culture of helping underprivileged persons should be encouraged to enable society reduce the gap of poverty.
“Financially capable people should show a sense of humility by helping less fortunate people,” said Ndegwa.
The party attracted street children from as far as Nairobi, who had assembled to celebrate the Christmas.
“I reside at Global Cinema where I delivered a baby 4 days ago, I am happy to have food and presents for my little baby,” said Mary Njoki, a street woman.
Stephen Wangai, a street boy said that their lives could be improved if government addresses their needs.
“We need education but we have no means to achieve it .We urge government to address our plight,” said Wangai.
The underprivileged persons who included street children and elderly were also given clothes and food.
