A 13-year-old boy in Kisii County has reasons to smile again after well-wishers joined hands to raise fees for him following his exemplary performance in the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
The student, Rodgers Monayo, scored 417 marks in KCPE.
The students had been compelled to repeat class eight after scoring 367 marks in the 2016 examinations.
He was failed to join Cardinal Otunga High School Mosocho because of lack of fees.
Monayo is set to join Friends School Kamusinga in Bungoma County following the contributions from well-wishers.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Nation, the student could not hide his joy after being given a chance to pursue his secondary education in one of the most prestigious schools not only in Western Kenya but also the entire nation.
He thanked the media house for highlighting his plight and revealed that he wants to become an engineer once he completes his secondary education.
His mother, Beatrice Nyaboke was equally overjoyed following the support accorded by well-wishers.
Dr. Charles Otara, the proprietor of Kaskaz Beach Resort in Diani deposited Sh53, 000 to cater for the boy’s fee in form one.
The Gusii Global Group contributed Sh 16, 000 to help the mother of the boy. The group 'Suneka Saito’ which comprises of Jonnah Ondieki, James Maisiba and Benjamin Miranga contributed Sh77, 000 for the needy student.
Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga and Kisii Governor James Ongwae have also promised to support the need boy complete his studies.
