The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission Chair Wafula Chebukati has bashed all those calling for the resignation of the commissioners.

Speaking on Wednesday in Mombasa, Chebukati maintained that he will not resign, urging all those calling for his resignation to follow the due process.

His stand comes two days after the Supreme Court upheld president Kenyatta’s win in the October elections, which IEBC oversaw.

“At the end of the day, the commissioners in office did not just come to office, they were interviewed, brought in office by the constitution and clear terms on exit from office,” he said.

Kenya Human Rights Commission Executive Director George Kegoro is among those calling for the disbandment of the commission.

“We should put in place a plan, the country will need a long time to prepare for the next elections, probably not with the current body,” said Kegoro.

According to Kegoro, their internal wrangles were a major indicator that the body could not deliver a free, fair and verifiable election.

Chebukati is on record having said that he could not guarantee the country a free and fair election, a few days to the October 26 polls.

NASA withdrew from the presidential elections, citing lack of confidence in the electoral body.
