West Pokot County is the latest to pay a Courtesy visit to the County's department of Cooperatives and Enterprise Development.

The team led by the CeC Agustin Chemonges Lotodo alongside his team on Monday benchmarked cooperative department mainly to re-invent their ways of providing loans to cooperatives to enhance the investment culture in their county.

With the success stories from Uasin Gishu's department on cooperative funds, they were able to learn more than enough and more so change their limitations into innovation for capacity building.

Speaking during the meeting, Esther Mutai, County Executive in Charge of Cooperatives and Enterprise Development, who was the host praised the team from her department, saying were the key players towards the success of the department since the inception of devolution.

"As a department, the continuous improvement of the guiding principles and loan regulations is a critical component for "sell SACCO agenda" to all areas within the County; we attribute that to our success," said Mutai.

Since the establishment of the County Enterprise Fund, the small societies are given a helping hand through financing and trainings to equip them skills and capacity to operate and expand business opportunities. 

The fund charges low interest rate of between 5 and 8% p.a. for farmer's marketing societies and Saccos respectively.

The County has a total of 610 registered cooperative societies in which 155 societies were registered after the dispensation of devolution.
