A political showdown looms in West Pokot County, after declaration by area senator Prof John Lonyangapuo and former Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) chairman Samuel Poghisio, that they will be contesting for the gubernatorial and senatorial posts respectively.
The two friends said they will be on the ballot during the August 8, general polls, through a Kanu party ticket.
Lonyangapuo who was elected on a Kanu ticket in 2013, said he will be seeking to unseat incumbent governor Simon Kachapin, who was elected on a URP (merged into Jubilee party) ticket.
Their declaration is seen as a blow to Jubilee, given that Lonyangapuo enjoys massive support from the County residents.
The senator and governor have been in political rivalry, with each of them accusing the other of failing the electorates.
