President Uhuru Kenyatta says he is confident of reclaiming Western region in August elections after a disastrous outing in 2013.

Being predominantly Luhya occupied region, Uhuru lost to Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi despite beating them in overall results.

Although Musalia has since joined Odinga’s camp, Uhuru is working closely with Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka and Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba to consolidate votes from the region.

“We have opened industries and roads, our children are going to school and there is electricity everywhere,” Uhuru told Busia residents during his tour.

The Head of State added: “I am sure that Jubilee is now under control because you are tired with rhetoric. They failed to work for you when you were in government.”

Despite the inroads made by Jubilee, opposition stalwarts have often maintained that Western region is a Jubilee no go zone.

And during NASA’s campaign launch, campaign strategists chose Bukhungu stadium as a strategic region and its principals seized the opportunity to woo locals to vote for Raila Odinga.
