The Music Copyright Society of Kenya has come under attack from Western Kenyan artists and event organizers from the region for allegedly snubbing their events.
Kisumu based Event Organiser and promoter Aleki Alex expressed disappointment in MCSK, saying that it had failed to fulfill its mandate by sidelining artists from other regions and only concentrates in talents within Nairobi.
Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, the organizers said it is time for the society to equally attend to all artists in the country.
“MCSK once invited Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz to a music award around a month ago and offered him Sh1.5 million while our local artists were to be paid Sh50,000 only.
“This led to protests from artists and event organizers that led to the Tanzanian artist cancelling his participation as they felt like MCSK was not having their issues at heart,” said Aleki.
Tecno Vybez Awards winning artist Kysh Robert said MCSK snubbed this year’s edition of Vybez Awards which was held in Kisumu on October 18.
“Artists are really complaining about MCSK and we feel its about time we petitioned the copyright society to stand up for our rights,” said Robert.
“They neither sponsor nor promote our events in western Kenya as we are also part of Kenya and sidelining us is an infringement on our rights,” he added.
