An opinion polls conducted by the University of Nairobi Research Institute indicates thaty all incumbent Western Kenya Governors are likely to be re-elected this year.
The research which was sponsored by Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli was also used to install Musalia Mudavadi as the Luhya community spokesperson.
“We invited independent researchers from University of Nairobi and they have done a research which shows popular politicians from Western,” Atwoli said during Bukhungu Declaration ceremony.
“Musalia Mudavadi tops with 39 percent and he is closely followed by Wycliffe Oparanya and Moses Wetangula at 30 percent and that means Mudavadi is our spokesperson,” he added.
However, the gubernatorial popularity figures which are likely to elicit an endless debate showed that most governors from the region could be re-elected.
Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) scooped 71 percent, Sospeter Ojaamong of Busia (45%), Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma (53%), and Patrick Khaemba of Trans Nzoia (52%) while Vihiga’s Moses Akaranga scooped 58 percent.
The figures have since been dismissed by Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale who accused Atwoli of hoodwinking Luhya community by defending unpopular governors.
