For more than a decade, Raila Odinga has been the main Presidential candidate from the Western region.
The Western region is made up of Nyanza and Western provinces and is inhabited by the Luo and Luhya communities.
Despite Raila Odinga being Western region political kingpin, there are a number of politicians from the region who have also vied for the Presidency.
Here are some of the politicians from the Western region who were once Presidential candidates.
1. James Orengo
He is currently the Senator for Siaya County and has also served as an MP for Ugenya constituency.
Orengo ran for Presidency in 2002 for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) but finished fourth with just 0.4% of the votes.
2. Raphael Tuju
He is the former Member of Parliament of Rarieda Constituency and now a key player in the Jubilee regime.
He resigned as the President's advisor and vied as a Presidential candidate in 2013.
3. Cyrus Jirongo
The former Member of Parliament of Lugari Constituency vied for the Presidency in 2017 as a flag bearer of the United Democratic Party.
4. Musalia Mudavadi
Musalia Mudavadi is one of the Co-Principals of the NASA coalition and has also served as MP for Sabatia Constituency.
In 2013 Musalia Mudavadi was United Democratic Party (UDP) flag bearer for the presidential election.
