Ford Kenya leaders have hit out at Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, asking him to apologize for dismissing presidential candidates from western region as jokers.
Led by former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo the leaders cautioned Oparanya to stop ridiculing leaders from the region.
“Mr Oparanya is free to speak his mind but I want to tell him that he will be shocked so badly since he has not idea of what is taking place (politically),” said Oparanya.
Other leaders from the region voiced similar sentiments, saying it was wrong for the governor to discourage presidential hopefuls.
“Mr Oparanya should apologise to the Luhya nation for belittling his colleagues who have declared they will be contesting the presidency. He should know when the time comes, he will need them to support him,” said Abel Mutimba, Kakamega County’s Ford Kenya.
This comes days after leaders from the region met to debate on the way forward for the county, with speculations that they might be considering supporting a single candidate for the presidency in next year’s elections.
