Kisumu based Western Stima has been relegated from the Kenya Premier League (KPL), despite beating Chemelil Sugar 1-0 in one of the last matches of the 2017 season played across the country on Saturday.
Wesly Kemboi scored for Stima in the 62nd minute in a game played at the Chemelil Sports Complex, but the win was not enough to help the Power men remain in the top tier league.
Stima’s fate was sealed after Thika United managed a 1-0 win over Bandari FC at the Thika Municipal Stadium.
Thika United and Western Stima ended the league at position 16 and 17 respectively with identical 38 points, but Stima has an inferior goal difference.
Stima and Muhoroni Youth are the two relegated teams in 2017. The two Kisumu based sides will now spend next season in the ever competitive National Super League (NSL).
Gor Mahia are the 2017 Champions, while top ten slots are filled by Sofapaka, Kariobangi Sharks, Posta Rangers, Kakamega Homeboyz, Tusker FC, Ulinzi Stars, AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar and Bandari FC in that order.
Sony Sugar, Zoo Kericho, Mathare United, Chemelil Sugar and Nakumatt FC survived relegation after finishing between position 11 and 15 respectively.
