Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi has urged MPs to nominate experienced individuals with admirable integrity to the East African Legislative Assembly.

Wanyonyi warned legislators against using the nomination as a chance of rewarding unqualified job seekers.

“We should be careful while voting to ensure we have members who are up to the task. EALA is not a dumpsite for people who are seeking jobs. They should be persons who do not represent political parties or regions, but the entire country,” Wanyonyi said.

However, the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has temporarily barred MPs from electing EALA members until the petition against NASA is determined.

This follows a petition by August 8 General Election Narok West parliamentary loser Jimmy Lukka challenging the list presented by opposition.

Lukka says that the NASA list does not meet the required constitutional requirements.

The petitioner was directed by Political Parties Dispute Tribunal chairman Kyalo Mbobu to file and serve orders as an advert in a leading local daily.

Mbobu also directed mentioned parties to appear on Monday at 2.30pm for an inter-partes hearing.
