Wetangula says that he is hopeful that the other co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka will support his bid.

Speaking during the Ford Kenya party delegates meeting in Bungoma over the weekend, Wetangula said that he had what it takes to be endorsed as Cord flag bearer.

“I am confident that my brothers Raila and Kalonzo will endorse me as Cord presidential flag bearer in 2017,” said the senator.

He revealed that Cord was working on a nomination strategy that will not create division in the coalition, further noting that he will support the candidate endorsed by the coalition.

The Bungoma senator denied claims that he wants to ditch the opposition and join a political party yet to be formed by Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.

“Claims that I am planning to ditch Cord are just rumours,” he said.

There have been claims of divisions within Cord since all the three principals have shown interest for the presidency in 2017.

The principals have however dismissed the claims on several occasions, accusing Jubilee of allegedly buying its members to weaken them ahead of the 2017 elections.
