Cord co-principal Moses Wetangula has defied the order by Inspector General Joseph Boinnet to provide the police with information on the murder of businessman Jacob Juma.
Wetangula during a funeral in Matunda had said he would name the people who were after Juma’s life, during his burial scheduled for this weekend.
“We expect Senator Wetang’ula, being a long-standing lawyer and having had distinguished service in high ranking positions in government, to discern credible facts from ordinary hearsay and therefore inform the police as soon as possible for appropriate action,” Boinnet said in a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday.
The Bungoma Senator in response to the request by the IG said, “ Why should I?”
“I said what I said, and that is, that Jacob Juma told me that there was a very senior person in government who had hired skilled hit men to kill him. He told me, that ‘If I die, do not keep quiet with this information’. He did not just tell me. That is the same message he told Cyrus Jirongo, Raila Odinga, Boni Khalwale and many others,” Wetangula told The Standard.
Police said on Tuesday they found two spent cartridges at the scene where the government critic was shot dead on May 5.
The head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro, said Juma was shot using an AK47 rifle.
Boinnet said a special team of experienced detectives were probing the murder.
Cord leader Raila Odinga last week asked the government to invite the FBI and Scotland Yard to carry out investigations into the killing of the businessman.
Odinga said Kenyan police cannot be trusted with the investigations.
