Speaking in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia county, during the homecoming ceremony of area Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa on Saturday, the Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya party leaders respectively, poked holes into the attempt to expand the executive.

Wetangula faulted the push, terming it as a plot by a section of politicians to allocate themselves leadership positions, urging Kenyans to oppose the same should it culminate into referendum.

"The referendum proposal is a trap that will land us into the same hole we have always found ourselves as a nation after every few years. Its a scheme by the political elite to fulfill their political wishes and calls for objection," said the Bungoma Senator.

His remarks were echoed by Mudavadi who termed the debate as premature.

He called for sobriety in handling the growing push which follows the President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA chief Raila Odinga reconciliation, urging the involved leaders to let it be handled by experts should the changes prove inevitable.

"Its still early to go into amendments. However, we will have to examine our current law before undertaking the practice and that is better off handled by our law experts and not politicians," said the former Deputy Premier.

The proposal, however, received a clean bill of health from Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who also sits in the NASA summit.

The campaigners of the changes want the adoption of the Bomas Draft which will see the introduction of a powerful Prime Ministererial slot.
