Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro had summoned senators for a special sitting to discuss controversial election Laws amendments.

Wetangula however questioned the presence of many police officers outside parliament and also accused Jubilee government of barring the public from following Senate proceedings.

“Parliament has been turned to a military barrack under our watch. This is not the right way to go and the country could get out control if the Speaker fails to take clear actions,” he said.

“The public gallery is empty just because officers are under instruction from government. We must know the clear division of powers which the Executive wants to deprive us. The military should not camp outside parliament,” he added.

Last week, chaos was witnessed in the National Assembly during the debate on the controversial amendment of the election laws.
