Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) co-principal and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula has been in the limelight for a while after rumours came out that Cord co-principal and ODM party leader Raila Odinga was working closely with Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Cord leadership comprising of Mr Odinga, Mr Wetang'ula and Kalonzo Musyoka are all in the cold after all the three showed interest in bearing Cord's flag in 2017 polls.
However, the inclusion of Mr Mudavadi in the mix up leads to more confusion. Odinga has been asked to step down and endorse a Musalia-Kalonzo coalition.
This has led to various comments insisting that Wetang'ula will be left in the cold politically.
Having stayed with Cord during all the ups and downs from 2013, Wetang'ula will feel cheated if Musalia peeps him in the leadership ranks in Cord come 2017.
With Wetang'ula having unveiled his 2017 presidential bid, he would easily exit Cord if Raila fails to endorse him.
His allies have also cited betrayal if Raila joins hands with Musalia Mudavadi who they have cited as an outsider trying to fix himself in Cord.
However, most Western Kenya leaders have asked Raila to work with Musalia and that they will support their alliance come 2017.
This only means that they believe Wetang'ula is not yet ready to accommodate the pressure that comes with leading a coalition towards a general election.
With 2017 fast approaching, Cord should work fast and efficiently to solve stalemates to avoid a fallout that may hand Jubilee alliance an early win.
Cord leaders should organise a meeting with all members of the coalition and agree on certain issues that may negatively affect the coalition towards 2017.
In a meeting held at Khwisero in Kakamega county, COTU unionist Francis Atwoli brought together Luhya leaders who drummed up support for Mudavadi.
Leaders like Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Lugari MP Ayub Savula termed Wetang'ula as an unripe candidate for the presidency in 2017.
This clearly shows that Wetang'ula lacks the support from people in his backyard and can terribly fail to woo voters countrywide.
Mudavadi holds a higher chance than Wetang'ula and thus the Bungoma senator should support the ANC leader and make Cord a stronger coalition.
