Wetang’ula, who spoke on Wednesday after a meeting with other Cord co-principals Raila Odinga and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, said the move was irrelevant as the days of tribal political kingpins was long gone.

“The last thing I will do as Wetangula is convene a meeting to discuss an individual, least, Musalia Mudavadi,” said Wetangula.

“For us to start discussing individuals, will be losing track of what we are looking for, we don’t want to be petty, we want to be serious,” he added.

He went on to suggest that the function of COTU leader Francis Atwoli, who was at the centre of the coronation of Mudavadi, was sponsored.

“A spokesman is a puppet, he speaks on behalf of others, or when they tell him to speak. Nobody tells us to speak, we speak what is in the interest of our community,” he said.

He insisted that the Luhya community listens to him, and he did not need any confirmation from anyone to possess the honour.

Amani National Congress Party leader Musalia Mudavadi was named as the Luhya community spokesperson, during a ceremony that was held at the Bukhungu Stadium last weekend.

According to Mudavadi, the meetings, which also included meeting other Luhya community leaders was meant to build consensus and draw a road map to help Cord capture power in next year’s elections.
