There have been reports that Wetang'ula was plotting to deputise Ruto in the next poll following recent meeting between a section of his Ford-Kenya party MPs and the DP.

In an interview with the Nation, the Senator denied sending the legislators to Ruto, noting that the meeting at the DP's Karen residence was also attended by MPs from NASA affiliate parties.

"The meeting with the DP was also attended by Amani National Congress (ANC) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members and claims that I had dispatched them are untrue," said Wetang'ula on Monday.

"If that is the argument, what will one say about the presence of ODM MPs in that meeting?" he posed.

The Ford-Kenya party leader insisted that he will be in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, adding that nothing would pull him back.

Wetang'ula, who cut ties with ODM leader Raila Odinga last week, said he had 'moved on' after the embarrassing ouster as Senate Minority Leader and was now focused on building his political future.

"I have no ill feeling towards anybody," he remarked.

The Senator added: "I have a future to look up to and the people who believe in me to lead. My 10-year support for Raila has left me a stranger in the palace."
