Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has slammed the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, after he made a U-turn over his support for ANC party leader, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi.
Atwoli had vowed not to support Mudavadi, after he failed to show up for the controversial swearing-in of NASA leader Raila Odinga on January 30.
He however, on Sunday said the Luhya nation would continue supporting Mudavadi, as their spokesperson despite what happened ahead of 2022 elections.
"For you to remove Mudavadi as the Luhya kingpin, you need a gathering of one million Luhyas, which is not an easy thing," he said, flanked by Mudavadi and other Luhya elders and elected leaders.
Atwoli was addressing the press after leading a meeting of Luhya council of Elders at his Khwisero home.
On his part, Mudavadi pledged to work with all Luhya leaders who were willing to support his ambitions and unite the Luhya community.
However, Wetangula dismissed the meeting, saying Atwoli sought to divide the unity of Luhya nation.
"Atwoli's cheap gymics with a handful of imposters and masquerades will not solve mulembe unity issues. He is a turncoat we should ignore," said Wetangula.
He wondered why elected leaders from Bungoma, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi were not present in the council meeting.
"Atwoli's aim is to divide and not unite Luhyas. where were elected Luhyas from Bungoma, Trans Nzoia and Nairobi? They don't matter?" he tweeted in a quick rejoinder.
