National Super Alliance (Nasa) co-principal Moses Wetangula will defend his Bungoma Senate seat on August 8, his party, Ford Kenya, has announced.
Bungoma Ford Kenya Secretary Peter Wakhuleka said Wetang'ula made the decision as he is irreplaceable.
"It is a sealed deal. We are going to present his name to the IEBC as unopposed candidate," he said at a press conference in Bungoma on Sunday.
Wetang'ula will relinquish his seat, in the event that Nasa forms the next government, to take the position of deputy premier cabinet secretary.
Ford Kenya had reserved the Bungoma senator position for Wetangula as no aspirant vied for it in the primaries.
The other Nasa principal who will be defending his seat is Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani.
Rails Odinga of ODM was on April 27 named the Nasa Presidential candidate and Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper his running mate.
