MPs John Serut Serut (Mt Elgon) and David Were (Matungu) urged the Bungoma Senator to ditch Cord, saying the Luhya community stood to benefit more from Jubilee than in the Opposition.

The leaders were speaking during the burial of Jephris Lumonya Wanyama, the mother to Dan Wanyama (MP Webuye West) held at the Chebosi Secondary School in Bungoma County on Saturday.

“Our community supported the Opposition for two consecutive terms and the community ended up in political cold after those they supported failed,” said Were.

Wetangula said Cord was now prepared to engage in the talks over the IEBC stalemate with a view to reforming the electoral body.

“I wish to thank Jubilee for agreeing to dialogue although earlier it has had a hardline stand on the matter,” said Wetangula.

Deputy President William Ruto asked the Opposition to come up with alternative ways of airing their grievances instead of resorting to protests, which in most cases end up in loss of lives and destruction of property.

“We cannot resolve our problems through protests, threats and intimidation. We have a Constitution that can guide us on how issues like the IEBC ones can be solved,” said Ruto.

TNA chairman and Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja asked the Luhya community to abandon the Opposition and support Jubilee, which he said he will win the 2017 elections.

“It is time the Luhyia community chats its political destiny. We will not have apologies to make once we are decided because it is in Jubilee that we will benefit a lot,” said Sakaja.
