Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has secured his seat, in the elections conducted Tuesday, flooring his opponents with a big margin.
The Ford Kenya party leader and National Super Alliance (Nasa) co-principal was declared winner, after garnering 289,639 votes (70.45%) against his closest rival Jubilee Party's Juma Mukhwana's 58,132 votes (14.14%). This translates to 231,507 votes difference.
Wetangula has been holding the seat since the 2013 general elections. He retained the seat also, during a December 2013 by-election, where he was accused of bribing voters in the last elections.
Third in the race was former Royal Media Journalist David Makali, who garnered 29,994 votes (7.3%), through an ANC party ticket.
Others included ODM's Bonface Nyongesa at 28,540 votes (6.94%) and Chrsipus Wamukoto, an independent candidate candidate who garnered 4,806 votes (1.17%).
