[Photo|Governor's Press Service-Bungoma County]Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati on Sunday called on all elected leaders to rally to the course of Luhya unity if the community should be respected. Speaking at three different church services in Mukuyuni Ward of Kabuchai Sub-County, Wangamati said only when leaders rise above party politics and speak with one voice, will earn the respect of other Kenyans."Our unity as elected leaders will give our Senator and FK Party Leader Hon. Moses Wetang'ula a bargaining chip in the 2022 national succession politics," he said."For the Senator to be respected and listened to nationally, the rest of this country must see that Bungoma County and by extension western Kenya is fully behind him."On Saturday, while speaking in Ekero, Mumias where he joined Mr and Mrs Obulinji in mourning their kin, Wangamati said the future of Luhya unity singularly depends on the wholesale empowerment of the community. Wangamati said "as a community, the only one sure way of getting a Luhya to the top of Kenyan leadership is through empowering our people economically.""Without economic empowerment, we shall continue to be bought on the cheap and divided every election time," he told mourners including Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who was present.He said the five luhya Governors from Vihiga to Trans Nzoia control in excess of Sh50 billion."If we purposed to work together in synergy, we have the potential to economically empower Luhyas to be able to support one of our own to ascend to power," he said.Obulinji is a Bungoma-based businessman while his wife a teacher at Namachanja High School in Bungoma.
